The Chief Nursing Officer for England, Professor Jane Cummings, officially opened our new Centre for Simulation in Health and Care in April. Realistic acute and community clinical settings will provide nursing, health and care practitioners with hands-on experience. The facilities include two fully functioning acute hospital wards, 15 human patient simulators, eye-tracking equipment with flexible simulation spaces such as a GP surgery, a care home, a one-bedroom flat and an ambulance. The first cohort of 118 students started our new adult nursing programme in January, which has been designed in partnership with local NHS organisations across the region. You can view a video fly-through of the new facilities.
Brand new for 2017, Catherine House offers approximately 700 en suite rooms, arranged in self-contained flats for four to six students with shared kitchen and dining facilities in a prime city centre location. This addition means all first year students are guaranteed a place in halls when they make us their firm choice and meet accommodation deadlines.
This summer the Dental Academy saw a seven week refurbishment of its Therapy and Hygiene Clinic. The original clinic was 12 years old and in need of an upgrade along with up-to-date compliance. Complete with 26 dental chairs and three radiography units, the modernised facility opened to patients in September.
