40 Years on – where did the time go?
From the 13-15th October 2017, 18 former BA Geographers (1977-1980) plus 3 wives and partners and 3 lecturers enjoyed an action packed and thoroughly enjoyable weekend back in Portsmouth.
On the Friday afternoon, 14 of us had an informative tour of the Geography Department with two of our lecturers, Derek Mottershead and Paul Farres, yes they really are still there! We could not get our heads round the fact that the Department was full of students on a Friday afternoon. Things really have changed from our day! We were joined by a further 8 people for the obligatory few beers and an Indian on Friday evening.
Saturday was a mix of culture, food and drinks with a visit to the Mary Rose and Spinnaker Tower. It’s hard to believe that the Mary Rose was still on the ocean bed when we all met, the Eldon Arms is now closed and the India Arms is an Italian Restaurant! On Sunday morning we enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the seafront before we all headed home, rejuvenated.
It was absolutely brilliant to meet up again after such a long time and to just pick up the friendships from where we left off, 40 years ago.
See you all in Sheffield for the 40th anniversary of our graduation. Why Sheffield – well why not?
