French Studies reunion – Class of 1974-1978
Alumna Krystyna Pickering (nee Mazur) tells us about her French Studies reunion held in November 2014:
On Saturday 8th November a group of French Studies students from the class of 1974-1978 met in Portsmouth for the weekend to mark the 40th anniversary of their arrival at Portsmouth Polytechnic. Former French Studies lecturers also joined the reunion. Lunch was at the appropriately named Café Parisien followed by a “visite nostalgique” to the Wiltshire Building, previously known as the Drill Hall and former departmental building of the School of Languages and Area Studies. We are grateful to the Alumni Office for arranging this opportunity on our behalf. The function room of the Bridge Tavern was a perfect location for our evening dinner surrounded by the sights of Old Portsmouth, Camber Docks and Gunwharf Quays. The pub provided a welcoming atmosphere with impromptu entertainment from the resident magician! No reunion would be complete without a bracing sea front walk back to the hotel.
Two of us have children currently studying at the University and we hope that they will enjoy the same long term friendships that have been an important part of our lives for the past 40 years.
There is a plan to meet again in Portsmouth on the 6th June 2015 with other alumni from the School of Languages and Area Studies (1974-1978).
