Alumna Hayley Biddlecombe signs up to trek Oman
Accounting and Finance alumna Hayley Biddlecombe recently contacted us to tell us about the amazing things she is doing in her spare time since graduating the University of Portsmouth.
I graduated in 2008 with a BA(hons) in Accounting and Finance. I loved my time at Portsmouth, I met my best friend in the first few weeks and she in turn introduced me to my now husband.
The Monday after my last exam I started my first job at a local company, then in Segensworth, TFB. I joined as an Accounts Support Analyst supporting legal accounts software. Just over 9 years later I am still at the company, we're now based in Whiteley and after a few name changes we are called Tikit. I've also held a few different positions, currently I manage the very team I started in as the Accounts and Carpe Diem Support Manager. I look after a team of 4 who support legal accounting and time recording software.
Over the past few years I've taken part in 11 Obstacle and Mud runs, I like to push myself to the extreme so when I saw the CoppaFeel Oman trek advertised I had to apply! The trek is headed up by Fabulous Magazine and we'll be joined by Olympian Greg Rutherford and Author/vlogger Giovanna Fletcher. 2 teams will trek through the desert for a week, sleeping in the desert and walking 8 hours a day. I guess I got picked because I can cope well in extreme situations and I'm good at fundraising - I'm the fundraising rep for my office.
I wanted to do the trek for CoppaFeel! in particular because they do amazing work with young people to get them to understand the early signs of breast cancer and give them the confidence to go their doctors if they find anything which is not normal for them.
Part of my fundraising is a Virtual Run. This can be done anywhere at anytime and 80% of the fee goes to charity. The participant's will each get a good quality medal for their achievements.
