Alumnus Alasdair Lord graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BA (Hons) in Latin American Studies and has had his very own book published: The Tao of Sustainable.

About the book

The Tao of Sustainable Development presents a workable radical alternative paradigm to the current failing global neo-liberal capitalist socio-economic paradigm. The Tao of Sustainable Development is a paradigm change of philosophy, education, psychology, values, organisation and technology that is essentially Utopian in nature. A continuation along the destructive linear path of the arms-trade walking hand in hand with neo-liberalist capitalist ‘free’ market economics is no longer fit for purpose; only a paradigm change of socio-economic political philosophy can deliver long term environmental sustainability and social justice.

About the author

Alasdair Lord was born and grew up in York, England and first became interested in issues of social justice and environmental issues during the Thatcher administration in the early 1980s.

After working in Holland in the early 90s, he attended the University of Portsmouth from 1992-1996 and graduated with a BA(Hons) in Latin American Studies. He obtained an MSc in Water and Environmental Management from the Water Engineering Development Centre (WEDC) at Loughborough University in 2003.

Since graduating he has largely worked as an English Foreign Language teacher in countries including Thailand, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Spain.

During his time living in Thailand he was the Education for Sustainable Development Coordinator for the British Council (Thailand), co-writing a text book on climate change for Thai high school teachers and delivering a paper at the 10th UNESCO-APEID conference, Learning Together; Education for Sustainable Development, in Bangkok in December 2006.
While living in Thailand he also survived the Asian Tsunami in 2004 and the devastating flooding of 2011 in Ayutthaya.

Most recently he has worked as an English for Academic purposes tutor at York University and continues to blog about sustainability and post capitalism.
